About the artist

With his cross-disciplinary practice, designer and artist Inderjeet Sandhu explores themes of displacement, migration, and identity through his cross-disciplinary practice. He draws inspiration from his own bi-cultural upbringing in an Indian household in The Netherlands and the ways in which cultures and ideologies can contradict and diminish a sense of self and belonging. His work is object-focused and research-based, and he uses furniture and objects to reflect on how domestic politics can be just as powerful and influential as the politics of external institutions and how these two spheres can often be in conflict with one another. Additionally, Inderjeet explores the complexities and nuances of how cultural and personal identities intersect and affect one's sense of self and acceptance. By confusing, mixing, subverting, and denying preconceived notions of the object's usage, history, and connotation, Inderjeet aims to challenge the familiar and open up new perspectives on the concept of home, identity, and belonging.
