About the artist
Yana is an emerging queer Syrian refugee artist based in Istanbul. Her artistic journey is deeply influenced by her personal experiences, including a harrowing 30-day journey through the forest to escape the violence in Aleppo - Syria to Turkey.
Drawing from her own life and struggles, Yana is trying to explore themes of identity, displacement, and resilience through her art, she challenges stereotypes and societal norms, inviting viewers to engage with her work on a profound and introspective level.
In addition to her visual art, Yana is also a writer, working as an editor for a refugee led NGO, and contributing to a documentary that sheds light on the experiences of queer refugees in Turkey. Her multidisciplinary approach to storytelling amplifies the voices of marginalized communities, bridging the gap between art and activism.
Yana's work serves as a reminder of the transformative power of art to inspire change and foster understanding. As she continues to push the boundaries of artistic expression, Yana invites viewers to reconsider their perceptions of identity, resilience, and hope through her art work.
