About the artist

Neo Mahlasela is a musician/artist based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Born 1993 in Soweto, He began producing music under the alias Hlasko in 2010 while studying printmaking. He was later featured on various collaborative projects while employed as a printmaker at David Krut Workshop until he resigned to pursue his practice in 2016. His work embraces drawing, print and sound installation to explore the elemental and subconscious through experimental and spontaneous creative processes. He was among the alumni of Red Bull music’s bass camp in 2013, granted the Google Arts & Culture residency via Hans Ulrich’s 89+ in 2016 and Infinity Wave, Kampnagel 2018. Most of his work may be found online, including musical collaborations with other electronic musicians such as Labelle, Jumping Backslash and Thor Rixon.
