About the artist
I’m Defne, also known as “kirbe”. I'm a 19 years old transgender woman born and raised in a small town of Turkey. As far as I remember I was always involved in arts. I’ve been drawing as a form of escapism ever since I remember. I’ve had a somewhat happy childhood but some things in my life were not sitting right with me. I’ve always had feelings of femininity that I tried to tone down when around my peers and family. I got into art high school at 14 and the first year of high school I was diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder which has been, and still does affect my life a lot. After a rough journey I fully accepted and embraced myself and started feminizing HRT at 17 by having commissions and working as a freelancer. I graduated high school with second place and got into Marmara University of Fine Arts in September 2023. Now I study and live in Kadikoy Istanbul where I continue my work.
