They say that all poets come from somewhere. #-Emir Erkaya can be seen as one of them. Residing in Istanbul, the artist takes inspiration from the ancient and recent urban history, subcultures, mythology, Anatolian civilizations and the political history of Turkey. His artworks, fabling the societal issues and the people in his life, give references beyond temporal and cultural borders. Occasionally highlighting sexuality and suspense, the artist’s artworks notate the dichotomies of the good and the bad, the perpetrator and the victim, man and woman in a Renaissance density, while Erkaya studies the hermaphrodite forms.
