About the artist
Bongiwe Phakathi was born in Sebokeng, South Africa. She works and lives in Johannesburg. She is a lens-based artist working with collage processes and text. Her themes of interest are spatial navigation and spatial organisation, memory as heritage, migration, notions of home, community and the black experience. Phakathi works as an independent photographer, layout designer, art administrator, and workshop facilitator.
